This boutique Style gem is one of Ocean City’s vibrant shopping destinations. Owners Sam and Cyndi Sorbello purchased the property in 2020. Because of the generous donations of the community of Ocean City and beyond, Bastazo Thrift Shoppe has the feel of a boutique. This boutique-style gem in the heart of Ocean City is loaded with unique items, hard-to-find items, antiques, new and previously owned clothing, jewelry, furniture, collectible toys, board games, dolls, ceramics, and much more.
Customers instantly notice the unique clothing racks made from of up-cycled doors as soon as they walk into the store (They too were donated from an older home being torn down, and were lovingly repurposed). Cyndi Sorbello says she has witnessed the love of the community since opening day. “The heart of people has really been encouraging.”
The greek word Bastazo means “to bear” or “to carry” – in this case to bear a burden and not only to carry it -but to carry it away through prayer, financial support and encouragement.
Through our personal hardships, Jesus has carried us through and He bore our transgressions on the cross. For these reasons we serve Him through this ministry. We love because He first loved us. And it is in the following verse that “bastazo” appears and is the theme of what we do:
Galations 6:2 “ Bear one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ”
The Law of Christ: Matthew 22:37-39 NIV
Jesus replied: “ Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.”
